What Can We Learn From the Death of Krystal Anderson?

We have lost another mother. A Black mother.

Her husband lost a wife.

The NFL lost a former cheerleader.

The University of Richmond lost an alumnus.

The software engineer industry lost a colleague.

AKA lost a soror.

Her cause of death? Sepsis. She lost a previous baby at 21 weeks because of a stillbirth. And then had another stillbirth three days before she died.

Of course, I’m numb.

And sad.

And angry.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

But yet, it is.

Are you tired of reading about these tragedies? Then, please, lobby for a holistic approach to medical school acceptance. Statistics show that a 4.0 GPA and research do not guarantee clinically competent physicians. Diversity, inclusion and represetnation matter. Until more people who look like me are included in the physician and nursing workforce, these tragedies will continue.
