Should You Have a C-Section Outside of a Hospital?

Please pray for the women in Florida because we are doomed. Like an unwelcomed malignancy, private equity firms continue to infiltrate women’s health practices and metastasize, causing havoc and sometimes death.

Florida has the unenviable distinction of becoming the first state in the U.S. to approve C-Sections outside a hospital. It was only because a reputable news agency like KFF published this story, that I didn’t believe it was a hoax.

Over the past decade, there has been a substantial increase in private equity investment in OB-GYN practices across the United States, particularly since 2017. According to a 2020 study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, from 2017 to 2019, the number of private equity affiliations in OB-GYN clinics more than doubled compared to the previous seven years. These firms have rapidly acquired numerous OB-GYN practice groups, significantly transforming the landscape of women’s healthcare into a hot mess.

This trend raises critical concerns about patient safety and the quality of care. It also contributes to our country’s dismal maternal mortality rate. The disparity of Black women dying Is not only because of racism but also because of corporate greed.
